Basic Research in NeuroscienceTight interaction between basic and clinical researchThe research groups at the Max-Planck-Institute for Neurological Research concentrate on neuroscientific basic research. The importance of the brain for regulation of energy and glucose metabolism is set to become a focal point of research. Another key line of enquiry will be exploring the basis for the raised incidence of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease in patients with pre-existing metabolic disorders. The institute's expertise in a variety of imaging techniques will advance all planned projects. Translational aspects play an important role for our research activities. Findings gained in basic research projects are being transferred to clinical studies. Through intensive interactions among individual research groups and with the University's Hospital as well as other research institutes, synergies will emerge and thus benefit scientific progress for patients' sake.
